Stellenbosch’s historic Delheim Wine Estate is inviting outdoor enthusiasts, families, and nature lovers to immerse themselves in the breathtaking landscapes of the Simonsberg with the launch of its new network of hiking and trail-running routes.
From early morning strolls to invigorating trail runs, visitors can now explore three scenic routes of varying distances — 2.5km, 5km and 10km — each designed to showcase the farm’s rich biodiversity and spectacular views. The adventure begins with unparalleled panoramas of Table Mountain, before meandering through a secluded valley of pristine Renosterveld, gradually giving way to Boland Granite Fynbos. Along the way, hikers may hear the call of the Southern Boubou, glimpse a Cape Spotted Eagle Owl, or discover signs of the Cape leopard, rooikat, or duiker.
The trails are alive with seasonal treasures: the delicate Simonsberg Daisy in summer, wild mushrooms in autumn, and proteas, buchu, and suikerbossie higher up the mountain. As the path climbs, the scenery opens to sweeping views of the Simonsberg and historic Kanonkop, once a signalling point for Cape trade. On the return leg, shaded pine forests evoke the feel of a European woodland, offering a cool refuge where fynbos thrives. Passing through Delheim’s Chardonnay vineyard block, guests gain a unique perspective on the slopes that shape the estate’s celebrated wines.
Safe, accessible, and perfect for all ages, the trails require no bookings. Permits are just R75 per person (all ages, all routes), available at Delheim’s reception via card or SnapScan. Each visitor signs a quick register before setting out, with friendly guidance provided for first-timers. Trails open daily from 8.00, making Delheim an ideal spot for an early morning walk with friends or a solo escape into nature.
